Getting started
From sign-in to downloading a reviewed report. The portal is at the address your
organisation was given, ending in /app/.
1. Sign in
Use the email and password your organisation was given. Your sign-in is kept only for this browser tab; your password is never stored by the page. Closing the tab signs you out.
The first time, you sign in from the invitation link we send you: open the link and choose your password (at least 10 characters), then sign in with your email address and that password.
If you were given an access token instead of a password, open Sign in with an access token under the form and paste it there.
No account yet, or locked out? Contact support. Accounts are set up for an organisation; everyone in your organisation sees the same uploads and jobs.
2. Upload your survey
Under New survey, step 1, choose your files. You can pick every part at once (for
example the .dfn, .dat and .des of an ASEG-GDF2 export), or add a
missing part afterwards: the portal says what it still needs.
- Accepted today: ASEG-GDF2, a located CSV, a line database as a
.zip, a Geosoft database (.gdb) or XYZ file, or a grid (you then draw lines across it on the map). See File formats. - Up to 300 MB per upload.
- Uploaded files are visible only to your organisation and expire two hours after the last change to the upload. Jobs you submit keep their own copy of each line.
- Start again discards the upload and lets you choose different files.
Optionally, show the portal where you are working: the Area of interest card under step 1 of New survey lists the public deposits, permits and geology inside your area and flags any line outside it. See Area of interest.
When the files are read, the lines are drawn on the map and listed in step 3.
3. Check the coordinates
Step 2 says which coordinate system the portal used, in one of these forms:
- "Located in GDA94 / MGA zone 53, as the file declares." Nothing to do, but look at the map: the lines should sit where your survey was flown.
- Choose the coordinate system. The file does not say. Search by name (for example MGA zone 50) or by EPSG code (for example 28350) and pick the system your survey contractor's report names.
- "The positions in this file do not fall where ... puts them." The declared system cannot be right. When the file also holds longitudes and latitudes, the portal offers the system they point to as one button.
- Local or mine grid: contact support. We set up the conversion with you.
More in Coordinate systems.
4. Pick lines, data column, field type and target depth
- Lines. Tick lines in the list or click them on the map, up to 60 at a time. Select all and Clear help with large surveys.
- Data column. The measured field: total magnetic intensity for magnetics, or the vertical component of gravity. The portal suggests one.
- Field type. Magnetics (total magnetic intensity) or Gravity (vertical component). The portal guesses it from the column's name and units; check it. It never guesses for a derived product (a vertical derivative, RTP, an analytic signal, a filtered or continued channel). Submit the measured field, not a derived one: a derived channel read as the measured field gives a wrong depth.
- Target depth below the measurement line (the sensor), in metres: one depth for the whole selection. See Choosing a target depth.
- Press Check lines.
5. Check the lines and submit
Step 4 lists every line before anything is submitted.
- A line that cannot be processed as asked shows the reason, and is not submitted. The reason says what to change: usually the target depth. See When a line is not processed.
- Untick a line to leave it out.
- Change the target depth or field type and press Check lines again.
- Press Submit.
Each submitted line becomes one job.
6. My surveys
My surveys lists every job of your organisation with its status. While a job is processing or in review, the list refreshes itself every 30 seconds; Refresh does it at once.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| processing | Queued or running. |
| in review | The run finished and is waiting for review by our staff. Results download after review. |
| ready | Reviewed and released. Click the job (or View results) to see the results, then download the files. |
| not processed | The line was refused before or during the run. The reason is shown under the status. |
| could not be completed | Something went wrong on our side. We are notified and will be in touch. |
7. In review
Every run is reviewed before release and nothing is published automatically. Until a job is released its files cannot be downloaded, and a report seen before release is marked NOT RELEASED. A released report names the date of the review and the company that countersigned it.
8. View your results
Click a ready job, or its View results button, to see its results on the page before downloading anything. A job that is still in review shows nothing until it is released. The results open below the list:
- Section: the section figure along your line, with its sources.
- Map: your line and its targets on a street map. Targets are placed on the line by their distance along it.
- Targets: the rows of
targets.csv, numbers rounded for display (hover a cell for the value in the file). Click a row, or a target on the map, to mark it on the map and on the section and to show its written opinion. - Report: the report itself, with Open full size to read it larger. It is the downloaded file, shown inside the page.
The download buttons are under the report. More: Viewing results online.
9. Download
A ready job offers four files, from the download buttons under its results:
- Report (
report.html): open it in any web browser. - Targets (CSV) (
targets.csv): one row per source, for a spreadsheet or GIS. - Targets (GeoJSON) (
targets.geojson): the same rows as map points. - Section (SVG) (
section.svg): the section figure, for a browser or drawing program.
Downloaded files are named cauchy-, the first eight characters of the job
reference, and the file's name. What they contain: Reading your results.
